About this project
After several smaller-scale applications, MetaFit was used for the first time in a project of this scale at Kas.ko in Kwintsheul. The entire tubular rail heating system was replaced in a 2.7-hectare greenhouse. A total of approximately 26 kilometers of 51-mm-diameter heating tubing was installed.
MetaFit was used exclusively to connect the heating pipes. As a result, this project represented an important next step in the application of mechanical pipe couplings.
MetaFit was developed to connect heating pipes in greenhouses without welding. The connection is based on a tapered design. The pipes are mechanically joined together, forming a watertight connection that can withstand immediate load.
Since there is no need for on-site welding, a separate step in the assembly process is eliminated. This provides more flexibility when planning and carrying out work in the greenhouse. Additionally, no open flame is required to make the joints.
For this project, the various tasks were coordinated among the parties involved. The pipes were pre-fabricated and painted by VD Horst. Jac Solleveld Verwarming of De Lier then handled the installation of the entire pipe rail heating system. Metazet supported the project by providing technical guidance on the application of MetaFit.
The scale of the project made it possible to apply the connection not only technically but also in practice during a large-scale installation.
The entire installation of the pipe rail system was completed within seven days. During that time, the heating pipes were installed, connected to MetaFit, and the system was put into operation.
For Kas.ko, this meant that the entire tubular rail heating system could be replaced in a short period of time. For Metazet, the project provided valuable hands-on experience with MetaFit on a larger scale.
Since its introduction in 2023, MetaFit has already been used in several smaller projects. Prior to that, the joint was extensively developed and tested with the goal of creating a joint that performs on par with a welded joint.
With the installation of approximately 26 kilometers of Ø51 tubing at Kas.ko, MetaFit has now been implemented on this scale in a complete greenhouse for the first time. This project thus represents the next step in the practical application of weld-free connections for tubular rail heating.
